  • Contact the Behavioral Health phone # on your health insurance card, and ask to speak to a behavioral healthcare coordinator. Let them know that you would like their help in identifying local, in-network behavioral health providers who have current availability.  

INTERFACE (William James College Referral Service)
Referral service for helping to connect people with therapists (based on location,  presenting concerns, insurance, etc.).  Serves many communities around greater Boston area, but NOT Boston itself.

MA Behavioral Health Helpline

Connects individuals and families to full range of treatment services for mental health and/or substance abuse. 24/7 365 days/yr for all residents or MA.  Call or text 833-773-2445.

Other helpful information:

  • A referral is not needed for behavioral health therapy in Massachusetts.
  • Availability can change week to week so it is best to try multiple providers and ask to be placed on their waitlist or cancellation list if necessary.
  • The type of license (PsyD, PhD, LICSW or LMHC) is less important than the therapist’s experience and fit for your child.
