At Needham Pediatrics, we care about your child’s emotional and mental well-being just as much as their physical health. That’s why we offer behavioral health services right here in our office. Our Behavioral Health Clinicians work closely with our medical team to support children and families with emotional, social, and behavioral concerns.

What We Offer

Our goal is to ensure every patient and family has access to high-quality mental health support. We can help with:

• Anxiety or depression
• Behavior challenges at home or school
• Attention and learning difficulties
• Parenting support
• Navigating life transitions and emotional concerns
• Collaborating with outside providers to coordinate care

We offer therapy and consultation services to support your child’s emotional and behavioral needs. If more specialized care is needed, we’ll help you find the right resources in the community.

How It Works

Initial Consultation

Your first visit will be a 30–45 minute conversation. Some families prefer to attend together, while others choose separate discussions—especially for younger children. Teens may prefer to attend independently. We’ll tailor the visit to your family’s comfort level.

During this session, we’ll talk about your concerns, goals, and how we can help. Afterward, your Behavioral Health Clinician will recommend next steps—whether continued support at our office or referral to another provider.

Warm Hand-Off Appointments

Same-day behavioral health visits may be available if the schedule allows. For example, if a concern arises during a primary care visit, a Behavioral Health Clinician may meet briefly with the family for an introduction or evaluation. These visits may be billed as an initial BH consultation.

Consultations & Collateral Contacts

With your permission, we may coordinate with school counselors, teachers, or other providers involved in your child’s care. We may also offer pre-appointment caregiver consultations to determine whether services at Needham Pediatrics or elsewhere would be most appropriate.

Privacy

We take your family’s privacy seriously. Behavioral health notes are shared only within the Boston Children’s Hospital network, unless you provide written permission.

  • In rare cases, we may need to disclose information if there’s a safety concern, such as suspected abuse or self-harm.
  • Patients age 13 and older have additional privacy protections. Parents are only informed of session details with the teen’s consent, unless there’s a serious safety concern.
  • Care team members can view notes within our secure system to coordinate care, and families may access visit notes via MyChart. Sensitive notes may have limited access upon clinical discretion.

Costs & Cancellations

Behavioral health services are billed under your mental health insurance benefits, which may differ from medical benefits. Copays and deductibles may apply. Please contact your insurer before your first appointment.

Payments can be made via MyChart, in the office or over the phone.
